A one-off original artwork, a talented young artist, a very recognisable model… and the potential for some serious family bidding tactics!

This striking framed etching was created by Zak during his GCSE Art studies and exhibited at Chatterbox Café in Canterbury.

The subject? His very own older brother, immortalised in ink as a rather cool-looking guitarist!

But there's another story behind this artwork that makes it particularly special to The Langton.

Zak created the print using the school's impressive Gunning Etching Printing Press No. 3 – a British-made, specialist machine funded by the Langton Boys' Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA).

Previously, the Art Department relied on access to the University for the Creative Arts in Canterbury for larger-scale printing. When that access was lost, the school needed its own equipment to keep these creative opportunities alive. Thanks to the generosity of The Langton Boys' community, students now have access to professional-quality printmaking facilities right here at school.

And now, in a rather lovely full-circle moment, a piece of artwork made possible by that fundraising is helping to raise money for the school once again!

There's just one small potential complication…

Zak's older brother is the subject of the picture, and we suspect quite a few family members might like to own it. Parents, grandparents, brothers, uncles… who knows how far this could go? Will it be a sentimental purchase, a competitive family showdown, or simply a case of who has the deepest pockets?

One original artwork. One talented young artist. One family. And potentially a rather entertaining bidding war.  May the highest bidder win – and may the family WhatsApp group survive!
