A BIT MORE ABOUT THE PTFA

Langton Boys’ PTFA is the Parents, Teachers & Friends Association of The Langton Grammar School for Boys.

We are a registered charity (No. 810298) run by parents, carers and staff to raise funds and support activities that enhance school life.

All parents and carers of pupils at the school are automatically members of the association.

What We Do

We raise funds for the “extras” that benefit our pupils: equipment, enrichment opportunities, events and experiences that add to their time at school (for example - picnic benches, gazebos, talks, F1 team funding, Vex team funding, etching machine for Art Department, Biology GENE technology sponsorship, National Theatre visits, and many more).

We work in partnership with the school to ensure funds are used where they make the greatest impact.

How We Are Run

The PTFA is governed by a Committee and Trustees in line with our constitution (based on the Parentkind model for England & Wales). The updated constitution  was adopted in 2024 and replaced the original 1971 document.   Parentkind Model Constituion ADOPTED.pdf

Committee and Trustee roles are vacated at the AGM each year, and nominations are invited. Existing members are welcome to stand again.

Committee Roles (roles can be shared)

  • Chair - Provides leadership, works closely with the school and supports volunteers.
  • Treasurer - Oversees finances and ensures good financial practice.
  • Secretary - Organises meetings, keeps minutes and supports communication.

Trustees

As a registered charity, the PTFA is overseen by Trustees, who are legally responsible for ensuring the charity:

  • Operates in line with its constitution and charitable purpose

  • Uses funds appropriately to support the school and its students.

  • Acts in the best interests of the school community

Trustees are encouraged to ask questions and help shape how we operate. No specialist experience is required, support and handover are provided. This is a light-touch role. In practice, Trustees:

  • Review and approve the annual accounts
  • Ensure the PTFA follows its constitution and charity requirements
  • Provide oversight on how funds are raised and spent

Trustees are not involved in running events or day-to-day activity, but instead provide reassurance that the charity is well managed.

Typically, the role involves attending the AGM, reviewing the accounts once a year, and being available if needed for guidance.
